The Korean International School Enjoyed their Multicultural Time in Gibsons

Our local high school welcomed twenty one teen students who are attending the International Korean School in Japan. Each student enjoyed a Canadian buddy and learned about the differences of high school in a small town in Canada to school in Japan. The students enjoyed interesting events in the afternoon, including a visit to our Fish Hatchery, where they learned about the cycle of a wild salmon.
We also enjoyed a presentation offered by a First Nations Educator. We spent time along the hiking trails of Hidden Grove and learned about First Nations Culture. The tradition of eating fresh blueberries with candied salmon was shared and each student had a small bowl to enjoy this tasty treat under the huge trees of our BC Rainforest. The ceremony ended with a beautiful First Nations Farewell Song.

I coordinated this event for MLI, an organization that promotes education and culture for foreign students. They choose small towns in Canada of offer homestay so each student has a chance to hear and use the English they know.

It is a warm and friendly program, creating long lasting connections between Canadians and people from other cultures.

I strongly recommend Evi as your next teacher. I've taken 3 lessons with her and all of them were absolutely fantastic! Well prepared lesson, clear and understandable pronunciation, immediate corrections after a lesson concomitant to suggestions for the improvements, she knows how to detect your weak spots and how to improve them. And the most important factor is that she is highly motivated, she encourages you to achieve your goals despite all obstacles.

Evi is a wonderful tutor! She is both very energetic person and experienced professional. We have had several lessons and I feel that they were really intensive and productive. Also, Evi prepares a lot to each lesson, sends notes afterwards concerning the issues I have to work with to improve my spoken English. Evi chooses only interesting topics to talk about, and her positive attitude motivates me a lot. I am looking forward to having our next lesson as I enjoy them very much!

MLI hosts an ADVENTURE ESL PROGRAM ON THE SUNSHINE COAST, EVI was the Coordinator for this Event

I was the coordinator for an adventure ESL program sponsored by MLI. Students from Kobe enjoyed visiting the Sunshine Coast and experiencing a different culture. Here are photos of some of the activities that took place:
The students learned about First Nations, and did some supervised paddling in
large traditional canoes.
.
We explored the rainforest and enjoyed the gurgling brooks and gushing waterfalls.

The Salmon Enhancement Program was an exciting stop. Each student had their own bucket of baby salmon to liberate into Chapman Creek.

Chris explained the life cycle of a salmon, and the group enjoyed wandering along the creek watching active birds and wildlife.

Each student had a small bucket of salmon to release.

Despite moments of rain, the lush green environment was alive with spring wild flowers and curious squirrels.

Two teachers, the agent, myself, and different local experts made the week an interesting experience.

Integration was a focus, and a buddy program enabled each student to learn about each other's culture.

The Japanese students taught the elementary school kids how to do Calligraphy and Origami. This cultural exchange was intriguing and pleasing to the Canadian youngsters.

Lots of photos, laughter and learning took place before the students returned to Japan.
